Abriel began playing piano at age 6 and trumpet at age 10. Growing up in The Hague, The Netherlands, her formative musical years were spent at the American School of the Hague, where she played trumpet in the AMIS Honor Jazz and Concert bands across Europe throughout middle school and high school. In 2006 Abriel crossed the Atlantic to attend Bowdoin College, where she studied composition and continued performing, playing first trumpet in the Bowdoin Brass Quintet, Orchestra, Pep Band, and co-founding the New Music Ensemble. She was recognized for her contributions to the Bowdoin music department in 2010, receiving the Sue Winchell Burnett music prize.
Abriel has performed in venues all over the world, from Symphony Space in New York City, to the Leiden Jazz Festival in The Netherlands, to an underground WWII bunker on Peaks Island. She has worked as a piano accompanist and music teacher at Camp Med-O-Lark in Maine, and played trumpet in musicals for the College Light Opera Company on Cape Cod. Since graduating from Bowdoin in 2010, Abriel has kept busy balancing work at an energy consulting company with teaching trumpet and piano,as well as playing with the all-female big band the Edith Jones Project and the Casco Bay Community Band.
