Nick Wilby is an experienced performer and teacher living in Portland, Maine. Originally from Enfield, Connecticut, he is delighted to be back in New England
over five years of living in Washington, D.C.
Nick first caught the music bug at age 11. With the help of his uncle and older cousin he started playing guitar. Mostly self-taught through his teen years, Nick decided to study music in college at UMass Amherst. At UMass he developed an understanding and deep appreciation for jazz music that continues to inform his listening and playing.
After college Nick spent a couple years teaching and playing around Western Massachusetts before moving to Washington, D.C. In D.C., Nick played in several bands and played all around the greater D.C. area and beyond. Nick also became an artistic associate for Pointless Theatre in D.C. where he has worked as music director, performer, and composer/arranger. While D.C. was a great experience, Nick decided to move to Maine in 2018 to be closer to family and the ocean.
As a teacher, Nick tailors each lesson to the individual. While stressing the importance of learning the fundamentals, Nick strives to help every student find their own voice on their instrument and most importantly, have fun! Well versed in many styles from Classical and Jazz to Rock, Funk, and Country.
