4th Annual Gui-Star Search held at TuneTown
June 7, 2007

WINNER: Andrew Mendolla

A standing room only crowd filled the showroom of TuneTown Music Gear in Wells to witness 18 contestants of all ages and abilities vie for the prize of a $1000.00 Marshall amplifier. The contest was judged by a panel of music industry experts: Marshall manufacturer’s rep Randy Singleton, TuneTown recording engineer Giorgi Baino, and local guitar legend Bennie Raye Jones. At 7:00 p.m., session artist Paul Kramer opened the evening with a demo of the capabilities of various Marshall products, then manned the post of technical assistant for each of the competitors. Each contestant played solo guitar for two minutes, and was graded for technical expertise, originality and stage presence. At the conclusion of their performance each bravely endured an “American Idol” style verbal critique from the panel. When the dust settled, 18 year old Andrew Mendolla of Berwick won the room with his funky finger popping take on ‘Classical Gas” and took home first prize. Second place winner Matt Leo impressed with a Chet Atkins style blend of country, blues & rock. For third place winner Gerry Vachon, of Lisbon, it was a familiar visit to the winner’s circle. A long-time TuneTown student, 15 year old Gerry won recording studio time in the 2005 Gui-Star Search, and placed third in last year’s competition, as well.
