Mary
Diverse musical interests include classical, jazz, funk, folk, and new age music. Her music career highlights include performing with Dizzy Gillespie and Jane Ira Bloom while attending Colby College. She attended the Hartt School of Music where she studied saxophone with Ken Radnofsky and Jackie McLean and flute with John Wion and Mary Ellen Jacobs. After graduation, she studied saxophone with Jerry Bergonzi and flute with Tom Nyfenger. She is working towards a masters at Longy School of Music. She has performed with the Colby College Jazz Band, the Hartt School of Music Jazz Band, the New England Conservatory Wind Ensemble, Cul de Sax, Sax Works, Choros, The Phil Rich Big Band, Heartland Theatre Project, Jazzotree, Jacqueline Gourdin and Friends, Natasha Ulyanovsky and Friends, The Victory Swing Band, The Metropolitan Flute Orchestra, The Tim Janis Ensemble, and now the Edith Jones Project. Mary has performed on a variety of recordings including Etain, Life Dance, Beach Glass, and Listen to the Children.
Edward
Edward Mitchell is a professional trumpeter, educator and Bandleader from the Greater Portland area.
As a performing artist, Edward has collaborated with numerous local ensembles and accomplished touring-level artists. Some notable collaborations include his own quartet, being a long-time host of the jazz session at Blue, and sharing the stage with local groups and artists such as El Malo, Hambone, Bandwich, Wayitworks, Clifford Cameron, Mike Effenburger, Sam Sherry, Michael Beling, Yeah Man, Viva and the Reinforcements, Compaq Big Band, and most notably, the Portland Jazz Orchestra.
Alongside regular performances, Edward holds a consistent schedule as a pit musician in the Southern Maine area, playing for theater companies such as The Portland Players, Lyric Music Theater, Windham Center Stage, Biddeford City Theater, among others, for productions such as "Elf the Musical," "Annie," "Addams Family," "The Full Monty," "Holiday Inn," "Mary Poppins," "Spamalot," "Into the Woods," Sweeny Todd," "Phantom of the Opera" and more.
Edward's musical journey and ongoing education have been greatly influenced by dedicated mentors. They have had the privilege of studying under the guidance of distinguished educators such as Christopher Klaxton, James Clark, Elizebeth Rines, Dr. Ryan Noe and Bronek Suchanek. These influential figures have instilled in Edward a profound appreciation for the multifaceted world of music, spanning genres from jazz and classical to hip-hop and funk. Edward firmly believes that the cultivation of skills and dedication across various musical domains elevates one's musicianship to new heights, and they are passionate about sharing this ethos with others.
